The DMC-FT3 rugged compact inherits core features from previous generation of weatherproof compacts and adds a built-in GPS function, a compass, altimeter and barometer. The body also gets a cosmetic makeover offering a better grip while retaining its pocketability. It is dustproof, waterproof up to depths of 12m (40 feet), shockproof against a drop of up to 2 meters (6.6 ft), and freezeproof down to -10 degrees C (14F). Along with the still photography features, the camera offers full 1080i60 HD video recording capability along with Panasonic's latest Active mode for less shaky videos and a 3D photo mode.
Technology
Leica DC Lens: The DMC-TS3 features a powerful Leica DC Vario-Elmar lens with a 4.6x optical zoom. Folded optics technology helps secure the lens unit for increased durability in rugged conditions. The camera is drop proof from up to 6.6 feet, and the lens is reinforced with a supplementary damper that helps absorb force from an impact. The lens unit itself is comprised of 10 separate elements and an 8-group prism unit, including an ED lens and multiple aspherical lenses and surfaces. Each of these elements has passed Leica's rigorous standards to ensure superior optical performance to the edges.
28mm Wide-Angle Lens: With the DMC-TS3's 28mm wide-angle lens it is possible to capture images of large groups of people, panoramic landscapes or sprawling architectural structures with ease, in dynamic width and gorgeous perspective, even at very short distances.
Optical Zoom, Intelligent Zoom, Extra Optical Zoom: Offering a host of powerful zoom functions, the LUMIX DMC-TS3 delivers impressively far away from a main subject. The full resolution 4.6x optical zoom lens captures natural expressions from subjects at a distance and can be increased to 6x equivalent using the Intelligent Zoom function. By extending the zoom power to 9.1x at 3-megapixel resolution or less, the Extra Optical Zoom brings subjects even closer with stunning image clarity.
Venus Engine FHD: The Venus Engine FHD gives the DMC-TS3 especially advanced signal processing capabilities. Capture clear, vibrant images even when shooting at a high ISO, thanks to the Venus Engine's ability to separate chromatic noise from luminance noise and to then apply optimal noise reduction to each. The Venus Engine also provides selective chromatic noise reduction without impacting the border of colors. A smooth link to the new Hi-Speed CCD sensor allows the Venus Engine FHD to process a large number of signals at very high speed. Record 1920x1080 HD video or consecutive shots at 3.7 fps in full 12.1-megapixel resolution or push the limit with 10 fps at 3-megapixel resolution.
Full HD Video: The DMC-TS3 has full 1920x1080 HD recording capability in AVCHD format. This format features nearly twice the HD recording time when compared to conventional Motion JPEG and offers a host of options that enhance the enjoyment and usability of capturing movies in high definition. The TS3 can record between 50 and 110 minutes in AVCHD mode and approximately 55 to 110 minutes in Motion JPEG. Choose from several different motion picture recording modes including; Portrait, Soft Skin, Transform, Self-Portrait, Scenery, Food, Party, Candle Light, Low Light, Sunset, Aerial, Film Grain, Pinhole, High Sensitivity or High Dynamic (Art, Black and White, Standard).
3D Photo Mode: The newly added 3D Photo Mode, fixed to 2-megapixel 16:9, captures amazing 3D images with less distortion and fewer visible image links. 3D images are pieced together using 20 panning shots. The camera then selects the best two images, one for the viewer's right eye and one for the left. The dual image is synthesized to create a 3D composite that can be printed, or viewed on a Panasonic VIERA 3D HDTV or any MPO-compatible device, including televisions and digital photo frames.
Location Information Indicator: Because the LUMIX TS series is designed for active outdoor use, the TS3 includes a compass, depth indicator, barometric sensor, altimeter, GPS and advanced measuring equipment, all packed into a sturdy, durable frame. From fishing and camping to surfing and snorkeling to skiing and mountain climbing, the DMC-TS3 is always ready to record impressive still and video images in the field. The GPS function provides real-time location information for each photo, and they can be tagged with place names and coordinate details. Images and location names are automatically stored alphabetically on the camera's internal drive, helping to organize photos and making specific image recall quick and easy.
Functionality
Waterproof: The DMC-TS3 offers completely waterproof performance up to a depth of 40-feet, and supports active shooting underwater when you are at the beach or in a pool. Dirt, soil and dust are easily washed away with a quick rinse of water. No more worries about camera damage when in tropical environments with high humidity. If you decide to visit the beach you don't have to worry about the sand and seawater causing damage to the camera. The sand is easily washed off, the waterproof functionality making this possible.
Shockproof: In accordance with the MIL-STD 810F Method 516.5 shock test standard, the TS3 is damage protected if dropped from a height of up to 6.6-feet. You can capture active shots on the move, from difficult angles or with just one hand - all without the worry of harming the camera if it's accidentally dropped, jostled or bumped. Anyone can have a clumsy moment; fortunately the TS3 has been designed with this in mind. If you drop the camera you don't need to worry, as the TS3 is completely shockproof.
Dust proof: Dust proofed to the IP6X standard, the DMC-TS3 features a unique body construction that prevents fine dust particles and debris from entering the camera body, even while you're hiking, lounging on the beach or playing sports. And remember, if the TS3 does get a little dirty, the waterproof body makes clean up a breeze - just rinse it off and keep going.
Freeze proof: The TS3 is freeze proof to 14o Fahrenheit (-10o Celsius), which means you can use it in even the harshest of winter conditions, all season long. Whether you are skiing, snowboarding, ice skating, sledding, snowshoeing or climbing in high altitudes, your camera will always be ready to capture those great cold weather memories.
Active Outdoor Scene Modes: We know you love the outdoors, which is why the DMC-TS3 is equipped with four different active outdoor scene modes - Snow, Beach and Snorkeling, Sports and Underwater. These modes are accessed quickly and easily via the camera's menu. There is also an Intelligent AUTO mode and a Normal Picture mode. Each scene mode is optimized for each shooting situation so you always get superior images in any conditions, even underwater. Switching from still shooting to motion recording in any scene mode is as easy as pressing the Motion Picture button. If you travel between diverse areas, from the beach to snowy hilltops, the option to change between outdoor scene modes is a fantastic function.
Intelligent Scene Selector: This feature makes it even easier to take great pictures no matter where you are or what you are doing. Choose from six different photo scenes; Portrait, Scenery, Sunset, Night Portrait, Night Scenery or Macro, and four different video scenes; Portrait, Scenery, Low Light and Macro. With Face Recognition, Intelligent ISO Control, Digital Image Stabilizer, Power O.I.S. and Intelligent Exposure, you're sure to get even more out of every still photograph or live action recording. Large, High Resolution LCD Screen: Never miss a detail with the DMC-TS3's large 2.7-inch high resolution LCD screen with wide viewing angle. You can frame each shot in a variety of different ways for both image capture and post-shot viewing. The Intelligent LCD function automatically adjusts screen brightness according to environmental conditions including daylight and nighttime (an invaluable feature), low-angle to high-angle, while the anti-reflective coating minimizes glare and makes images appear even sharper for excellent visibility even in bright sunlight. Regardless of the brightness of your surroundings, whether you are spending your day at the beach in conditions of bright sun and high contrast, or are attending an evening concert, you will always be able to shoot photos using the LCD screen as your viewfinder. You can also carefully review the pictures you have taken because the Intelligent LCD function will adjust the screen to suit the brightness of the surroundings.
Battery Life and Image Capacity: The TS3 ships with a 3.6V ID-Security Li-ion battery that can last through approximately 310 pictures. The 19MB of built-in memory helps ensure you won't run out of battery life or internal storage space in the middle of your trip. There is nothing worse than getting to the best part of your trip or day out and your camera battery dies. This is extremely unlikely to happen with the TS3.
LUMIX Image Uploader: Connect to your social network with the LUMIX Image Uploader. Instantly share your photos and movies on YouTube and Facebook in just a few simple steps. Select the photos and videos on your camera that you want to share, connect the TS3 directly to your computer's USB port or use the camera's SD/SDHC/SDXC memory card - the bundled PHOTOfunSTUDIO Ver. 6.0 software launches automatically on your computer. Follow the on-screen instructions, and your favorite images will post to your YouTube or Facebook account in seconds. After the upload is complete, you can even share your photos and videos with friends and family by sending the URL link in an email. There is no special software required to join these social networking services if you don't already have an account, and there's no better way to share your adventures as they unfold.
